Activities

At Welsh Gambling Education Hub Adferiad, we have created a wide variety of activities to be carried out as part of our gambling awareness incentive. The activities are split into three sections: young people, parents and carers, and professionals.

Young People

The educational and interactive activities that we have created include toolkits, lesson plans, peer-based performances, with scenarios to generate debate and promote discussion. The activities are designed to help young people understand the risks of gambling, the signs of gambling addiction, and how to set limits on gambling.

Examples of activities that we offer for young people:

  • Gambling Toolkit: Providing young people with information and advice about the risks of gambling, the signs of gambling addiction, and how to set limits on gambling.
  • Lesson Plans: Our lesson plans provide teachers with resources for teaching young people about the risks of gambling.
  • Peer-Based Performances: Designed to help young people understand the risks of gambling through the experiences of their peers.

Parents and Carers

The activities for parents and carers are designed to help them talk to their children about gambling. They include information and advice about the risks of gambling, the signs of gambling addiction, and how to set limits on gambling.

The activities also include tips on how to talk to children about gambling in a way that is age-appropriate and respectful:

  • Information and Advice: We provide information and advice about the risks of gambling, the signs of gambling addiction, and how to set limits on gambling.
  • Tips on Talking to Young Adults: We provide tips on how to talk to young adults about gambling in a way that is age-appropriate and respectful.
  • Resources: We provide resources for parents and carers, such as books, websites, and apps.

Professionals

The activities for professionals are designed to help them provide support to young people who are struggling with a gambling problem. They include information and advice about the risks of gambling, the signs of gambling addiction, and how to provide support to young people. The activities also include tips on how to identify young people who may be struggling with a gambling problem and how to refer them for further support.

Here are some examples of activities that we offer for professionals:

  • Information and Advice: We provide information and advice about the risks of gambling, the signs of gambling addiction, and how to provide support to young people.
  • Tips on Identifying Young People with Gambling Problems: We provide tips on how to identify young people who may be struggling with a gambling problem.
  • Referral Resources: We provide resources for professionals, such as websites, apps, and contact information for other organisations that provide support to young people with gambling problems.

All of the activities have been created in collaboration with educators, professionals working in the field of addiction, and people with lived experience of gambling addiction.

The activities are designed to be a pathway to lead into, create, and develop communication. They are a valuable resource for anyone who is working with young people, parents, or professionals to raise awareness of the dangers of gambling and to prevent addiction.
